6th International Conference on Debris Flows: Disasters, Risks, Forecast, Protection
The Debris Flow Association, the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, and the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat jointly with the University of Central Asia will organise the 6th International Conference on Debris Flows: Disasters, Risks, Forecast, Protection to be held September 20-26, 2021 in Dushanbe and Khorog, Tajikistan.

Spring 2021 Call for Participation: Live-Streamed Courses in Economics
The University of Central Asia's (UCA) Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA), in cooperation with the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education's Economics Institute (CERGE-EI) Foundation, invites all master level students, faculty members, applied researchers, and other interested individuals to participate in a live-streamed economics course starting in March and April 2021. Courses will be delivered online from CERGE-EI’s Digital Media Center in Prague, and coordinated by UCA from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to allow live streaming to multiple locations. Teaching Assistants from UCA will also provide basic assistance in course delivery.

Online Conference: Digital Economy in the Republic of Tajikistan

University of Central Asia (UCA) in collaboration with the World Bank, European Union and StrategEast, with cooperation from the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan is organising an online conference on Digital Economy in the Republic of Tajikistan.  At this conference, international experts will talk about the importance of Digital Economy in the development of the Country, and also present their research findings related to the Republic of Tajikistan. This conference will highlight opportunities available in the digital economy, which is growing fast, especially in developing countries. The core of the digital economy is the ‘digital sector’ (Information Technology Sector) producing foundational digital goods and services. The real ‘digital economy’ defined as “the part of the economy derived solely or primarily from digital technologies with a business model based on digital goods or services” consists of emerging digital and platform services. The event will be streamed online in English with simultaneous Russian translation through Zoom and Facebook Live.

The Institute of Public Policy and Administration of the University of Central Asia (UCA), the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ), and ISDC - International Security and Development Center invite submission of proposals for sessions and individual research papers for the 7th Annual ‘Life in Kyrgyzstan’ Conference, to be held online during October 26-28, 2021. The conference is supported by the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), Mercy Corps, UNFPA, and the World Bank.

EIP Public Lecture: Teaching and Learning in Central Asia: Current Realities, Future Possibilities
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Independent States of Central Asia have prioritized education reform to develop their human capital and make their countries competitive globally. They have recognized that in a rapidly changing and highly competitive world, merely providing students with adequate subject knowledge is an outdated educational goal.  Their national standards stress a competence-based pedagogical approach focused on developing students critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, connectivity for learning, character qualities, citizenship and cultural pluralism through the core subjects to facilitate success in personal, professional and civic life in the 21st century. The teacher is the key to developing students’ 21st century competences and realizing the goals of education.

IPPA Public Lecture: How Instrumental is the Membership of Kazakhstan in the Eurasian Economic Union in the Diversification of its Economy?
This lecture will describe the history of Kazakhstan’s economy, how it has evolved since independence, and what were the main factors driving its growth. The second part of the lecture will talk about the present state of the economy of Kazakhstan. The third part will be devoted to the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union and its structure. The last part of the lecture will summarize the five-year outcomes for Kazakhstan as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union.
